Answers before you connect a folder.
The practical details about formats, accounts, remote access, offline use, and what Leaf Player deliberately does not do.
Do I need to run a Leaf Player server?
No. Local files, Files folders, Wi-Fi transfer, Google Drive, OneDrive, SMB, and WebDAV work without a developer-run media server. Jellyfin is optional for people who already use it and want a semantic Movies and Series catalog.
Which devices are supported?
The public app supports iOS 17 or later on iPhone and iPad. macOS and tvOS builds are not part of the public website’s support promise.
Which audio and video formats can I play?
Representative audio formats include MP3, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, and AIFF. Supported video container claims include MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, and AVI. Actual playback also depends on the codecs inside a container, its subtitles, the source route, and the device.
Will Leaf Player change files on my NAS or cloud drive?
Remote file sources are read-only. Leaf Player does not upload, rename, move, or delete SMB, WebDAV, Google Drive, or OneDrive content. Removing a source or local membership removes Leaf Player’s own records, not the remote file.
Does Leaf Player collect analytics or require an account?
No developer account is required, and Leaf Player does not collect behavioral analytics or telemetry. Provider sign-ins stay separate and are used only for the source you connect. StoreKit uses Apple’s account system for purchases and entitlement.
How does Google Drive access work?
Leaf Player uses the drive.file permission model and a selected-file workflow. You choose the media files available to the app; Leaf Player does not receive general browsing access to the rest of your Drive through that connection.
Can I watch or listen offline?
Local media is already offline. Eligible remote folder roots can be made available offline. Wait for completion before relying on the copy; an incomplete transfer is deliberately not labeled as a complete snapshot.
How do external subtitles work?
Place a supported .srt beside the video and give both files the same basename. Embedded soft subtitles may also be available. Burned-in subtitles are part of the picture and do not appear as a separate selectable track.
Why does video stop in the background?
Video pauses when the app backgrounds or the device locks. Background and Lock Screen continuation is an audio capability; Leaf Player does not keep a hidden video session audibly active after the visible player is gone.
What should I send with a support request?
Describe what you tapped, what you expected, what happened, the source family, and whether the problem repeats. A screenshot and Leaf Player’s optional redacted diagnostics can help. Never email passwords, access tokens, or private server credentials.
