Getting started
From storage to playback.
Start with the smallest source that matches where your media already lives. You can add more later without rebuilding the library you already use.
Choose a source
Open Source in Leaf Player. Pick local media when the files should be stored by the app; Files folder when they already live in iCloud Drive or another Files provider; Wi-Fi transfer when they are on a nearby computer; or the matching service for Google Drive, OneDrive, SMB, WebDAV, or Jellyfin.
If you are unsure, a Files folder is usually the simplest way to try media already accessible on the device. SMB or WebDAV is useful when your folders remain on a NAS or home server.
Grant only the access you need
For Files, select the folder you want Leaf Player to retain. For Google Drive, select individual media files. For OneDrive, connect the account and add selected folders. For SMB or WebDAV, enter the server address and credentials, test the connection, and choose the roots that should appear in the library.
Remote file sources are used read-only. Removing a source from Leaf Player removes its local connection and derived state; it does not delete remote files.
Browse Music or Video
Use the Music and Video destinations to find the media Leaf Player has indexed. Audio metadata may add a title, artist, duration, and embedded artwork. Video may add a thumbnail, duration, format, codec, and resolution. This enrichment happens in the background, so a recognizable filename can appear before all decoration is ready.
Play and resume
Tap an item to begin. Audio offers the queue, shuffle, repeat, speed, sleep timer, and system media controls. Video offers scrubbing, skip, speed, control lock, subtitle selection where available, and full-screen playback. Leaf Player stores progress locally and uses it to offer continuation later.
Prepare for offline use
For an eligible remote root, choose offline availability before leaving a reliable connection. Wait for the folder to show a complete state; partial downloads are not presented as a finished offline snapshot. Keep the app active as required while large transfers complete.
When a server does not connect
- Confirm the iPhone or iPad can reach the same network or server address.
- Check Local Network permission for local SMB, WebDAV, and transfer workflows.
- Verify the account, share, path, and password without placing credentials in a support message.
- Open Server Check for SMB, WebDAV, or Jellyfin and run the bounded checks.
- If the problem remains, use Settings → Contact Us and include a short reproduction plus optional diagnostics.
Tip: for external subtitles, place the .srt file next to the video and use the same basename, for example film.mkv and film.srt.
